Stuff about the guitars
So, these are not high-grade, precision musical instruments, in case you were wondering.
These are exactly what the name says: guitars (and other instruments) made out of junk. They're fun and interesting conversation pieces, and they can crank out some great music. Each one's a little different, with its own unique sound and little quirks as far as playing them and tuning them goes.
They're sturdy. You can play 'em. They're fun, and they attract attention. (And sometimes disbelief!)
There are makers and sellers out there that go whole-hog on cigar box guitars with expensive woods and pickups and the like, but not me. I might splurge for a cool 70's lunch box or something, but mostly I'm trawling auctions and flea markets for cheap junk. I think it harkens more back to the early days of blues, or junk bands, or even when you used to just bang on pots as a kid -- found or made instruments. Making music with what you have.
